TURBO DECCS SYSTEM

The “Turbo DECCS System” was designed and developed specifically to facilitate the collection of Exhaled Air Condensate
(CAE / EBC), and is the most complete, versatile, simple and cheap system on the market.
The core of the “System” is a “family” of collection circuits named DECCS used together with special devices that complete the “System”, such as: TURBO which is a condenser for the controlling cooling of the test tubes; AAV used to discriminate the alveolar part of the exhaled air; VOLMET 20 a volumetric measurement device of the treated air.

Furthermore, it is the only System that allows the use of two or more condenser devices in series or in parallel, to perform collections with different condensation temperatures at the same time.

METHOD FOR THE COLLECTION OF THE EBC

The method is simple, it doesn’t require special skills and it is not invasive. For the conscious patients (cooperative), the collection is made by exhaling into the mouthpiece of the disposable collection kit, while in case of unconscious patients (under assisted respiration or ventilated) the collection is automatic and it is performed when the entrance of the collection disposable unit is connected to the endotracheal tube (or to the mask) and the exit to the return tube of the “ventilator”.
The exhaled air is funneled into the DECCS circuit and go through the collection test tube, previously cooled at a pre-set temperature (between 0 and -10°), on whose internal faces condenses because it is a saturated vapeur (99% of water). Approximately, for the collection of 1,5/3,0 ml of EBC, it should be processed about 75-110 L of total exhaled air and the estimated time is 10-15min.

TURBO 23 GOLD

TURBO is the acronym for “Transportable Unit for Research of Biomarkers Obtained” (see also DECCS), and the number that follows indicates the model and the year in which it has been introduced on the market.
The collected condensate, in previously measured doses, must be stored in the freezer at the lowest possible temperature
(recommended – 80°C / – 112°F because it guarantees the stability of many mediators contained).

Subsequently thawed and subjected to analysis with diagnostic methods such as MS-GC , IMS, fluorimetry, ELISA among others, may allow the diagnosis of lung diseases through the identification of the volatile, non-volatile or low volatility compounds present in exhaled breath, in addition to the determination of inflammation biomarkers and oxidative stress, produced by the cells of the airways. It represents the ideal method for non-invasive study of lung diseases and of the effects of early-induced inhaled pneumo-toxic substances.

FEATURES

SINGLE
USE

The core of the “System” is a “family” of single use collection circuits named DECCS

ADJUSTABLE TEMPERATURE

The collection tubes are cooled with a controlled temperature using an innovative condenser device called TURBO

EBC
DISCRIMINATION

AAV used to discriminate the alveolar part of the exhaled air

THERAPEUTIC MONITORING

Il Sistema di raccolta, senza o con AAV, può essere facilmente usato anche con soggetti sottoposti a respirazione meccanica assistita; ciò consente il monitoraggio terapeutico del soggetto assistito

MODULAR SYSTEM

The only System that allows the use of two or more condenser devices in series or in parallel

ADDITIONAL FILTERS

The system enables the use of different kinds of filters, including for instance the ESPERIAN type, one to be put on DECCS circuits on inspiration in order to call off the effect of a potential environmental contamination.

The features of Turbo DECCS System are largely described on the website, but they are underneath resumed in a prospective form::
Turbo 14

is an autonomous thermoelectric condenser, powered by an electronic switching M class, with 12Vcc output, or with an external battery (optional)

– It is portable, thanks to its modest weight (approx. 5 kg.) and the plastic case dedicated

– It is equipped with electronic thermostat with a touchscreen display for the temperature settings (from 0 to -10°C with scale in °C or °F) and for the condensation temperature control

– The numbers of collections are unlimited

– DECCS collection circuits are made in PP (medical grade) and equipped with saliva trap; they are all disposable for avoiding or reducing the risk of contamination of the monitored patients and of the collected samples. Risks are basically null if procedures are conducted with caution and security.

– Special DECCS circuits are available, dedicated to specific applications

– Special DECCS circuits on demanded can be designed and realized accordingly with the specific needs of single customer (to be agreed on demand)

– The System can be used both on patients with autonomous breathing and patients under invasive or not invasive (NIV) ventilated breathing

AAV 14

14 is a valve, independently and autonomously operating, for the discrimination of the alveolar portion of the exhaled air; it can be used singularly for the collection of VOCs samples or combined with TURBO to collect alveolar EBC samples and VOCs at the same time, with the simple use of specific and dedicated DECCS circuits (it is the only equipment on the market with those features)

– Thanks to the concept based on the modularity of the single components, it has been defined as the “LEGO FOR THE EBC”, it is the most flexible and adaptable System for the EBC sampling existing on the market

– It is also possible to connect two TURBO condensers in a series to increase the concentration of the constituents that can be detected in the EBC (it is the only equipment on the market with these functionalities)

– The System allows to use one filter (even SPERIAN filter) placed on the way of inspiration, when the environment conditions where the System is used require it

VOLMET 20

is the essential device for the methodology standardization of the EBC sampling; the device allows the quantity measurement of the sample air processed. It is equipped with an adjustable setting of the threshold, with buzzer alert when it’s reached.

PILOT STUDY SYSTEM 14

is a device for the EBC collection that works through the pre-cooling method, exactly comparable and correspondent to the competitor RTube: it is portable, it doesn’t have the temperature controller because it needs an external source for the cooling of the Aluminum sleeve. Pilot Study System is more efficient and less expensive of the RTube.

pH KIT

is a measurement system on the field, composed by a portable suite case which contains a portable pH-meter, a bottle of medical gas Argon with flow regulator dispensed for the de-aeration of the samples, as well as all the consumables needed to make a first measurement of the pH in the sample, immediately after collecting it.

The System it can be completed with accessories suitable to solve some logistical problems such as:

– an isolated plastic box, equipped with cooling tile, for transporting the samples collected till the laboratories where they will be frozen at -80°C

– a small trolley to facilitate the transport of the suit case with TURBO, AAV, pH Kit, etc. … those accessories are particularly appreciated by the Occupational Health.

APPLICATIONS

Since many years the “TURBO DECCS System” has been in use in Italy and abroad, in its different versions and with satisfaction for the Research in:
Environmental Medicine
Pneumology
Pediatrics
Oncology
Allergology
“Turbo DECCS System” can be also successfully used in the following clinical applications:
Analysis of the peripheral airways status, through the determination of inflammation biomarkers and oxidative stress
Determination of biomarkers for the effects of early-induced inhaled pneumo-toxic substances.
Identification of new biomarkers for lung pathologies, among which lung cancer, with the possibility of a subsequent clinical validation
Studies of proteomics, metabolomics, metals
